A New Pillar

styrofoam, concrete
485 x 130 x 130 cm
2003

A New Pillar was a makeshift pillar that surrounded the original pillar in the Korean Pavilion in the Venice Biennale 2003. Hovering above the ground about 10cm, it was much bigger than the original pillar with an addition of a base. The new pillar was only kept during the exhibition period and was added using easily removable material and method. With careful attention, audiences could recognize the difference from the previous condition of the venue.
