The Same

cast aluminum
49 × 37 × 76 cm
2020

I ended up making this piece in response to a snapshot taken in my studio around 1997, in which a small sculpture, roughly made and pushed to the side, caught my eye. The sculpture I saw in the photo was made of wood, plywood, and plasticine, with the parts in wood and plywood colored in cheap sky-blue paint. What attracted my attention more than anything in this piece, which had lain abandoned for a long time, was the shape of a dog-like figure together with the form occurring from framing a sculptural armature with lumber. These two familiar combinations move apart and come together, brushing past before once again moving away.
