This work, consisting of a wooden bookcase and stacked lumber, gives the appearance of a “safely-tilted” bookcase supported by a plank despite how it totters under the combined weight of the rest of the lumber; it simultaneously suggests that it is rather the pieces of lumber that lean into the slant of the bookcase. The work’s sculptural form is ultimately completed by finding a point of contact between its materials. The geometrical holes carved into the interior of the bookcase bring together the instability implied by the tilting bookcase and the objects’ dynamic state.
