Arsène Lupin, Gentleman Burglar

performance
40 min.
2012
sound: Han Kil Ryu, actor: Jiyoung Kim, commissioned by the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Korea

The urban landscape can be seen very closely over the stone wall at the back of Jeonggwanheon. Such an interesting scene that contrasts with the tranquil backyard of the palace inspired the artist to direct a performance. Done in collaboration with musician Ryu Hankil, the performance presented a mechanical vibration sound created using rain pipes of the building, interior structure or discarded objects. A short mono drama was coincided with the sound performance, in which an actress (Jiyoung Kim) acted only through quotes from the novel Arsène Lupin, Gentleman Burglar. The voice of the actress vibrated the rain pipes installed on the exterior of the building and transformed into a mechanical sound.
